Tasks of Lighting Technician

Lighting technician’s responsibilities are depending on the size of the production and the number of technical light. Mostly they are the member of the company who employee them but many established their freelance company after getting experience in this field. There are some lighting technician, who creates lighting systems before filming starts (as a platform to call an electrician) and the implementation of the light tests. The work of a lighting technician is to provide a comfortable environment. The work is physically demanding, requiring strength and agility, and the hours are long and unpredictable. A qualified technician works a six-day in a week and up to 12/ 13 hour day. They must be able to work quickly and accurately. They also are required a good communication and interpersonal skills, and have an eye for detail.

The role may involve long journeys distances. They usually require a driver’s license.

Qualifications / experience of Lighting Technician

They are required to have qualifications concerned to: C & G 2330 Part 1 & 2 Certificate in Electro Technical Technology and C & G 2381 Certificate in the requirements for Electrical Installation. They may have experience in television and theater, after their initial training before working on the film or commercials.
